Dansk

Dansk was founded in 1954 by Ted and Martha Nierenberg around the designs of the Danish designer Jens Quistgaard, and became known for teak, enamel and stainless tableware.

Dansk was founded in 1954 by Ted and Martha Nierenberg, an American couple who built the company around the work of the Danish designer Jens Quistgaard. Quistgaard was its founding designer: he drew the first logo and the first products, and kept designing for Dansk into the 1980s.

Dansk had its pieces made by factories in several countries, and the country is part of the mark. Museum examples read DENMARK, FINLAND and THAILAND, and a pair of teardrop candleholders we found in September 2026 reads Dansk Designs France IHQ, the same IHQ found alongside the country on Dansk pieces in the V&A.

The Nierenbergs sold the company in the 1980s, and Dansk later became part of Lenox. Ted Nierenberg died in 2009 and Martha in 2020. Dansk pieces are in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, MoMA, the Brooklyn Museum and the V&A.
