Terms of service

Terms of Service

Effective August 16, 2026

collectednorth.com is operated by Collected North LLC (“Collected North,” “we,” “us”). Using the site or placing an order means you accept these terms.

1. Who can buy

You have to be 18 or older and able to enter a binding contract. We ship within the United States only. See the Shipping Policy.

2. What we sell

Vintage and antique objects, sourced mainly in Denmark and elsewhere in Scandinavia and secondarily in the United States. Ceramics, glass and tableware, lighting, textiles and rugs, art and works on paper, silver and metalware, jewelry, books and design documentation, and — later — furniture and case goods.

Everything is secondhand. Nothing we sell is new, and nothing is manufactured by us.

3. One-of-a-kind inventory

Almost everything we list exists in a quantity of one. Listing an item isn’t an offer we’re bound to — your order is an offer to buy, and the contract forms when we send an order confirmation and charge your card.

If two people order the same piece within a few minutes of each other, the first completed order gets it and we’ll refund the second in full, promptly. It happens. We’d rather tell you plainly than pretend it doesn’t.

We can refuse or cancel any order, including for suspected fraud, reseller activity that conflicts with our terms, or a pricing error.

4. Descriptions, photographs, and attribution

We research and describe every piece as accurately as we can, including attribution to a designer, maker, workshop, or pottery where we’re confident of it. Attributions reflect our judgment based on marks, hallmarks, construction, glaze and form, and documentation. Where we’re not certain, we say “attributed to” or “in the manner of,” and you should read those phrases literally. Where a mark is present we photograph it.

We don’t issue certificates of authenticity and we don’t represent that any piece has been independently authenticated, appraised, or tested unless the listing says so and identifies who did it.

Photographs are part of the description. Condition notes and images together are the representation we’re making about a piece.

Colors vary between screens. Glaze color, metal tone, textile dye, and paper toning will not match a monitor exactly, and we can’t be responsible for that difference.

Dimensions are given in inches and are accurate to the nearest half inch. For anything large, measure your space before ordering. We’re happy to give you a specific measurement — ask before you buy.

5. Everything is sold as-is

These are used objects, most of them 40 to 80 years old and some considerably older. They carry wear consistent with their age and their history. We describe and photograph the condition, and you’re buying the piece in that condition.

Nothing here limits your rights under the Returns and Refunds policy if a piece arrives damaged or turns out to be materially different from what we described.

6. Safety, and what old objects are not

Nothing we sell has been tested against current consumer safety standards, and none of it was manufactured under them. That is inherent to buying vintage. Specifically:

  • Tableware, ceramics, and glass. Historic glazes, enamels, decoration, and leaded glass may contain lead or other heavy metals that can leach into food and drink. Unless a listing states otherwise, assume everything we sell is decorative and not food-safe, and don’t put it in a dishwasher or microwave.
  • Lighting and electrical items. Sold as fixtures, not as working appliances. Old wiring, insulation, and sockets fail in ways that start fires. Have anything you intend to use inspected and rewired by a licensed electrician, and don’t plug it in to test it first. European-origin pieces are also wired for 220–240V and won’t be safe on US current without work.
  • Textiles, rugs, and upholstery. Won’t meet current flammability standards. Keep them away from open flame and heat sources.
  • Jewelry and small metal objects. May contain lead, cadmium, or nickel in solder, plating, or base metal. Not suitable for children, and not suitable for anyone with a known metal sensitivity unless the metal content is stated.
  • Anything small. Vintage objects, jewelry, and their components are choking hazards. Keep them away from children and pets.

You’re responsible for having a piece assessed by a qualified professional before putting it to any functional use. We sell these as objects.

7. Prices and payment

Prices are in US dollars and exclude sales tax and shipping, which are calculated at checkout. We can change prices at any time, but never after you’ve placed an order.

Obvious pricing errors — a $4,000 piece listed at $40 — are not binding. We’ll cancel and refund rather than honor them.

8. Title and risk of loss

Title passes to you when payment clears in full. Risk of loss passes when the carrier delivers the item to you, not when we hand it to the carrier. If it breaks in transit, that’s our problem to sort out, and the Returns and Refunds policy tells you how.

9. Intellectual property

The photographs, written descriptions, research, and design on this site belong to us. You can share individual listings. You can’t scrape the site, reuse our photography or copy for commercial purposes, or republish our descriptions on another sales venue.

If you send us a photo, review, or message, you’re giving us permission to use it in connection with the business. You keep ownership.

10. Warranty disclaimer

Beyond what we describe on a product page and what the Returns and Refunds policy provides, the site and everything on it is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose. Some states don’t allow those exclusions, so parts of this may not apply to you.

11. Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, our total liability for any claim connected to an order is limited to the amount you paid for that order. We’re not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, including any arising from the functional use of a vintage object as described in Section 6.

This doesn’t limit liability for fraud, willful misconduct, or anything else that can’t be limited by law.

12. Third-party sales venues

We also list on Chairish, 1stDibs, Etsy, and eBay. Orders placed there are governed by that platform’s terms and its return policy, not these. These terms apply to purchases made on collectednorth.com.

13. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Ohio, without regard to conflict of laws rules. Any dispute goes to the state or federal courts located in Ohio, and you agree to jurisdiction there.

Before filing anything, email legal@collectednorth.com. Most problems get solved that way, and we’d rather solve yours.

14. Changes

We can update these terms. The version in effect when you place an order is the one that governs it.
