Stelton

Stelton is the Danish stainless steel housewares company founded in 1960 by Niels Stellan Høm and Carton Madelaire, maker of Arne Jacobsen's Cylinda-line and the EM77 jug.

Stelton was founded in 1960 by two friends from their army service, Niels Stellan Høm and Carton Madelaire, and the name joins theirs: Stellan and Carton. They bought a small factory, Danish Stainless, and did well early with stainless steel sauce bowls and serving pieces sold through Danish hardware shops and exported, much of it to the United States.

In 1963 Peter Holmblad, Arne Jacobsen's stepson, joined as sales manager and later ran the company. That brought Jacobsen's Cylinda-line, launched in 1967, which MoMA holds pieces of, and in 1977 Erik Magnussen's EM77 vacuum jug, named for its year.

From our shop

In September 2026 we found two sets of four in 18/8 stainless steel, candle holders and nut dishes, each in its original Stelton box and numbered 511/4 and 510/4. They are from the company's early steel range. We have not found the designer recorded, and they are not part of the Cylinda-line.
